yes, this a warthread. In my opinion both macs and computers have their good parts. But im still on the computerside as its the most suitable for me, why? because i CAN:
- Modify my hardware - Play very demanding Games. - do allmost anything that a mac can
there is a lot of other minor reasons but these are the main ones of why i want and need my computer.
i see no reason to why i would want a mac since i dont give a crap about video editing, photo organization or music editing. I also dont write newspapers. i know that macs rule for editing media but computers can do that pretty damn well too these days. SO, i want to hear from the real mac users why they did buy a mac, was it for the looks or simplicity, or what? Saying "It just works" does NOT count as an argument, macfans.
NOTE: i do not intend to make this a hatefull boohoo thread, so please do not take anything as personal attacks, if people start throwing up personal attacks i will close this thread imediately.

Same as ala for me, and microsoft made my zune so I really like it. I dont know about being able to plug a mac into a tv, I can with my pc so I get to watch all those movies like I am legend lol
Merry effing CHRISTmas
Happy holidays is for the salvation army, they have a right to want money.
i've got news for you...macs ARE computers. They both have the same exact abilities with the exception of intense and diverse gaming on macs. macs may have better hardware and a more secure OS since it's built off unix, but computers running windows can simply get an antivirus. PCs can make newspapers too, they can edit video and images just aswell. The only real difference between getting windows and a mac is that the mac OS comes with better software (and the security)

truth of the matter is, macs work wonderfully, until you try to mod ANYTHING, then good luck even turning it on, and really, better hardware my ass, i'm sorry but you can customize a PC, not a mac, find a mac that has an 8800 GTX in it, oh or maybe 4 gigs of ram, i mean really, this thing is 2800 frikin bucks, http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?node=home/shop_mac/family/mac_pro it doesn't even have the ram needed to utilize its eight damn processors!

oh and as mac turn them selves over to computer powered system, the only thing they got the rights to call a mac in this case is the OS and the plastic splatter.

Why am I not allowed to say I bought my Macs (I've bought three so far, and will buy a fourth one soon) because they just work? It's what I did. And why the hell are Macs no longer computers?
But let's get into more detail here. The two reasons I really bought my first Mac were a) because the development tools are easy to understand and free. Microsoft has since copied that with Visual Studio Express. b) Because I loved iTunes whenever I saw it on my father's Mac and I wanted something as good myself. Keep in mind that this was years before anyone ever thought of making iTunes for Windows.
Why do I like it so much these days? Well, first of all, there's the hardware side. Macs look good. PCs don't, even when they try to. This is, of course, just a matter of taste and you can freely disagree with me here. Still, there is no other PC with the clean look of an iMac, or for that matter, Mac mini. They also have good fan design and don't get as noisy as my horrible PC.
Another point is that if you buy a Mac Pro (or a PowerMac back in the day), you'll see that exchanging parts is actually easier than on most PCs, because the case is a very logical design that makes sure cables are available but don't get in your way. I've poked through enough small holes on the mainboard side of PCs to appreciate that.
I've also found that Apple's hardware is usually quite reliable. I accidentally poured Cola over my iBook, and not a small amount either, but it still works just perfectly (only the keyboard has gotten a little sticky). It's also fallen down rather often, while working, and hasn't complained ever. I haven't done such stunts with either of my desktop Macs so I cannot comment on them, but my iPods all have had their fair share of falling down and still work.
That Macs are better for general media stuff is a lie, as you all clearly pointed out. Macs are better for everything, including media, and it has a history of being used there much. As a result of this, many professional media applications, like Adobe's Lightroom, are introduced first for Macs. However, you can make newspapers just as well on PCs, if you're willing to put up with all the other crap a PC throws at you.
Then there is third-party applications. As an example, there is Growl, which will display messages about what happens in other applications in ways that don't get in your way, for example by showing a transparent overlay in the corner of the monitor. There is something similar for Windows, but it's not supported by most applications. Applications like Transmit (FTP) work better than their Windows counterparts. And finally, there's Delicious Library, an app to manage books (boring) that allows you to scan in the book's barcodes with the computer's integrated webcam (fun). You can't get that for PC.
It's probably only interesting for me that I think the Mac development tools are better than any for Windows. Still, for me it's a huge point that there is an OpenGL debugger and shader creater integrated for free, as well as a development environment for C, C++, Objective-C, Java, Ruby and Python for free. It's also easier to find the documentation you need on http://developer.apple.com than on http://msdn.microsoft.com/ .
Those are the reasons I use a Mac, from the top of my head.

"macs may have better hardware" PLEASE explain how a mac has better hardware, and no you cant have the ability to open up a mac and replace anything.
I guess you did not see the latest Mac Pro Some piece of hardware, and its very upgradeable. Anyway, without getting into a great debate, just hear this: A year ago I HATED Macs, I hated everything about them, but after getting used to them a bit at work, and then getting a great deal through work on a new iMac, hate turned to love. I do have XP installed, just to get games going, but I use OSX for everything else. There are good games for OSX too, and I bet there will be even more in the future.
About the upgrade thing on a "Normal" Mac, why upgrade something that works this good?
Finally a kick in the nuts to MS, OSX also have eyecandy, but it does not slow the machines down.
Every new OS release is faster than its previous version, on the same hardware
The iMac runs Crysis at medium, it´s really all I need. Might build a PC someday again, just for fun, but for now I´m very satisfied, just as you are with your PC.
Hey Coch, you forgot to mention that the Mac Pro has drawers for the hard drives, which slot them directly to the mainboard without cables AT ALL!

That must be why it is so "easy" to install OSX on a regular Winblows machine Dedicated hardware for a system ftw!
Someone mentioned Mac Pro cost earlier, before you loose control, go see what those CPUs cost! RAM these days is cheap anyway, and you can stuff in 32Gigs of it.

Yeah, right, I forgot that. I was talking from the experience with my father's PowerMac G4 which had cables, but fixed instead of lying around everywhere. It was beautiful. It's even better now.
I'd like to point out to everyone who has a PC that Twisted's claim of faster OS revisions is true. I've followed the development since 10.1 and have my own Mac since 10.2, and every new OS was faster than the last one for me.
Did I already mention stupid messages you won't get on Macs? Seriously, how do you guys stand all that "Do you really want to..." crap? It's only for things that matter on Macs, and that's a whole lot less than Microsoft thinks it is. Of course, there may be the odd person who likes being told that "You opened a new tab", and I certainly support keeping them away from Macs, but for me, it's far better on Macs.
