ok this has been annoying me for a while now and hope one of you guys can help me for a change instead of the other way around lol, why is it when you compress the map rfa which the textures have been done in ED with winrar, the file is not much smaller compared to when you compress it with the textures that have been done in BC (winrar compress's BC textures So much better)... i know its because of the land textures file (dds) but dont understand why this happens when the same mapping tools make the textures dds with the same format and size and spec!!!... anyone??
All compression programs look for repeated patterns to reduce the size. If the textures from ED are not compressing as much as the textures from BC, then they can not be the same.
Excluding ED textures being badly formatted, I would guess that ED is either making them to a higher detail or maybe its using a different DDS format ( as there is about 5 )
I tell you what did puzzle me, I thought the textures made one big picture that overlade the terrain. However on battle park, when I removed the alternative texture path from the Init.con, it has the same design in terms of grass, mud, sand, but the textures were changed to the default ones, which I can see only being possible with if they are tiled.
