i get this message when i try to play bf42 online or any of it's mods >>

i know why it happened. because i recently reinstalled windows and the registry file isnt in the current regustry but i have the registry file. the problem is, i dont have a valid cd key because i lost mine. does anyone have an extra cd key i can use or can let me know if there is a way to get into my registry of my old OS install and get the cd key from there.

Yes. i have tried CD key generators and googling for keys but none of them work.

generally, this means your CD key is in use...

I've tried like 10 different CD-keys and they all gave me that error. I don't think there are 10 people on at the same time using 10 different keys from a cd key generator lol. then again maybe idk :|

well, all not-original cd keys will give you the error "Invalid CD Key" If you want play online.

A original cd key that are been used will give you the error "CD Key is in use" and you can't play

On the beginning from my BF1942 time i had that problem, so i know the situation. I just bought it again.

So i can tell you, that you don't have any chance with a cd key generator. try to use a cd key from a friend from you, that dont play bf1942 anymore. or buy it again. BF1942 is very cheap

when the gamecreators make the game they code a set algorithm of how a cdkey should look like, it mostly contain rules of total checksums and how many numbers and letters the key in combinations must have, a key generator is set the same way as the installer and generates examples of useable keys for that application.
your key will be accepted for installation but when you go online it isnt recognized in the active printed cd keys server check.

this is why your cd key is invalid.
Buy the game again, its like 10 bucks or something.

If I lost mine I'd buy a new one. I have had YEARS from this baby. so If I can the man to give that EA dev another bag of green then so be it.

Oh wow! How helpful we are! The dude asks for help to retrieve his key from his old OS, and the thread gets locked? I'm on OSX right now, so I don't remember the exact location. But anyway, Hit start, run, type regedit and hit enter. The key is located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 1942\ergc

I think that is correct.

Yep, that's it. Fun fact: When you open your ~/Library/Preferences/com.aspyr.battlefield1942.plist, you'll notice that your CD keys have as key that exact string, so it's kind of a registry emulation.
